DevLog 10

Hello again!
Thanks for checking back in on our journey with the development of Ascent. We're thrilled to share that we're approaching the final stages of development, and we can't wait for you to see what we've been working on!!

On November 22nd we had our beta presentation and here are some feedback we got from the panelist:
- The gameplay feels repetitive, and collaboration with other players needs more room for mistakes

- Need more idea of where the throw will end, need to make the platforms less tall  since it's unclear which platforms are jumpable

- Checkpoints and endpoints should have both people to be activated

- Separate the players long in order to take advantage of the split screen camera

November 24

- We had a meeting with the art team to communicate which animations were needed and talk about the timeline

November 25

- Implemented new types of self-destroying platforms and moving platforms

- Modify the game so that player can only yank from certain platforms (yank-able platforms are indicated by a pile of rope)

- Updated checkpoints so that it can only be activated when both players reach it

November 27

- Revamp the tutorial level

- Revamp the first level

- Updated lighting to make the game brighter and warmer

- Added a text alert for yanking from the non-yank-able platforms

November 28 Ubisoft Playtest. some feedback we got were:

- The throw instructions were hard to understand (did not know the players needed to be close to be thrown)

- Change the throw to be aligned with where the camera is pointing

- Need to communicate that the goal of the game is to climb the mountain

- The floor being dangerous should be better communicated (jaggedy floor texture)

November 28

- Updated camera to turn to where the player is throwing

Next Steps:

- Refine the camera

- Refine the mechanics

- Updated tutorial signs to make instructions clearer

- Add ambient sounds and sound effects

- Add a cut scene before the gameplay to introduce the goal of the game and story elements
